pirates are scanning readme.txt and licence.txt file to discover outdated plugins, and use them to exploit security vulnerabilities. All these unnecessary files are therefore deleted on my servers and it was a big surprise to discover that wp-f2b is not working anymore since readme.txt deletion
is this file really necessary for WP-fail2ban to work, anyone have this problem ? how can i resolve it ?
Could you explain what you mean by “not working”? Nothing in WPf2b depends on the readme file other than the Welcome page or About tab; those read it to display the release notes, but only if it’s present.
ok my bad, problem was the use of very old config files incompatible with newer version of f2b when migrating
indeed, the readme missing file only affect the welcome page
f2b is working now
